The date was April 12, 1980 at King Louie West Lanes, Overland Park, KS where Ernie Schlegel qualified as the #1 seed in the 1980 King Louie Open. Nelson Burton Jr. qualified 5th, and plowed through the field defeating Bob Handley, Mike Berlin and Charlie Tapp (making his TV debut) to meet Schlegel, who up to that time was known as the top money winner without a career title.
