The date was January 7, 1992 at Gable House in Torrance, CA. Marc McDowell qualified 3rd, and met Marshall Holman, who defeated Ricky Ward in the opening match. There's been a lot of talk about the show where Marc McDowell first used a resin ball, an X-Calibur. You can vastly tell the difference between Holman's reaction, and hitting power on the pins, vs. what McDowell was getting. McDowell had a couple of shots where the pins were just destroyed. McDowell, went on to defeat Holman, and win his other two matches shooting 685, winning the $37,000 top prize, and requalifying for the Firestone, which he won later on in the season. Hope you enjoy all the action.

McDowell Captures AC-Delco Classic

PBA President Marc McDoweIl charged past three opponents, including leading qualifier Wayne Webb, 216-190, to earn his third title in the $177,500 AC-Delco Classic at Gable House Bowl. McDowell, Madison, Wis., earned the $37,000 first prize and also re-qualified for the Firestone Tournament of Champions.

Both finalists opened with strikes in the championship game, with McDowell adding a second-frame strike. Webb never struck again until the eighth frame, but trailed by 24 pins by then.

Webb, the 1980 PBA Player of the Year, won the Tour's inaugural tournament of calendar year 1984. With his $19,000 second-place check in the AC-Delco Classic, he also became the PBA's sixth player to top $1 million in career earnings to join Marshall Holman, Mark Roth, Earl Anthony, Mike Aulby and Pete Weber, who preceded him in reaching "millionaire" status.

ABC Sports' championship round coverage kicked off the 30th anniversary season for "The Professional Bowlers Tour" series, with veteran broadcaster Chris Schenkel entering his 50th year in broadcasting. In the first match, Marshall Holman defeated newly named PBA Rookie of the Year Ricky Ward, N. Fort Myers, Fla., 258-201. McDowell then entered and disposed of Holman, Medford, Ore., 228-184, and advanced from the semifinal game against 1988 PBA Rookie of the Year Rick Steelsmith, Wichita, Kan., 241-205.
