The date was April 18, 1987 at the Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks, CT at the Greater Hartford Open. Bob "Hookin'" Handley hadn't been on TV in over 2 years. He needed a victory to requalify for the Firestone, and he was in perfect position to do so, qualifying first. Handley was up against the late Jimmy Keeth (who is featured on another link on my site). Handley was victorious with a 247-201 over Keeth to capture the title, and the $23,000 first place prize money. The next week, at the Firestone, Handley finished in 19th place. Handley won a total of 5 titles while out on tour, with the last one being the 1990 Columbia 300 Open. I believe the '87 Hartford open was his 4th. These days, I believe Handley competes on the senior tour.

I also came across another link of Handley bowling from 2003, his style is basically the same after all these years:

$140,000 GREATER HARTFORD OPEN
Bradley Bowl, Windsor Locks, Conn., Apr 13-18, 1987

Handley Regains Firestone Spot

Tears of joy flowed from the eyes of Mary Ellen Handley as her husband Bob struck in the 10th frame to lock up the $23,000 winner's share in the $140,000 Greater Hartford Open. Handley, Pompano Beach, Fla. opened with three strikes against 19-year-old Jimmy Keeth and led the match from start to finish for a 247-201 winNow with four Professional Bowlers Association titles, the stop in Windsor Locks was Handley's last chance to get into the 1987 Firestone and he battled his nerves throughout the match. Several times Handley covered his face with a towel to help him concentrate and slow his racing heart.

Keeth, West Palm Beach, Fla., earned the right to bowl Handley by knocking off Marshall Holman, 210-203, in the semifinal match when Holman left a 4-6-7 split on a crucial 10th frame shot. Holman had worked his way to the match with Keeth by eliminating Tom Baker, a seven-time champion from Buffalo, N.Y., 248-226In the first match of the nationally televised championship round, Baker had knocked off Kent Wagner, Palmetto, Fla., 220-199.
