The date was January 5, 1974,
in the 2nd match of the day. It was the first telecast on ABC's
Pro Bowlers Tour, the $100,000 Midas Open from Alemeda,
California. Jim Stefanich was up against Glen Carlson and defeated
Glen 300-243. It should be noted that Stefanich shot 800 that day,
but didn't win the tournament. In the semi-final match against Bob
Strampe, he lost 246-244. Strampe went on to lose to Dick Ritger
in the championship match.
Due to a lane break down on lane 30, the match actually staddled
two pairs, and was bowled on lanes 28 & 29.
Also, this tournament was dear to me, since it was the first Pro
Bowlers Tour telecast I ever saw. I was 8 years old at the time.
From then on, I never missed watching a tournament up until the
PBT went off the air on ABC.
Hope you are enjoying the videos, got lots more to come! Isn't the
internet great!
