The date was April 1, 1971 at
the Firestone Tournament of Champions. John Petraglia qualified
number 1, after winning the prior two tournaments (Fairlanes Open,
and Don Carter Classic). Here, he was going for three in a row.
1971 belonged to Johnny Petraglia, setting the standard for prize
money won in a single season, as well as capturing 5 titles that
year. He was up against the defending champion, Don Johnson, who
bowled that memorable 299 game (http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=donjohnson)
the year before. This day belonged to Johnny. Johnson could never
really get going shooting only 169 to Petraglia's 245. John took
home $25,000 for the victory that day. Enjoy!
